Family Night Bonding ~ Learning Through Play

Simply Passionate Mom

To make the most of our days at home, I thought of doing some fun games with Lucas. I call it– Our Family Night Bonding. ❤️

Btw, it’s not every night we do this. Every so often, we have our family movie (Netflix) night or when we are super tired, we just go up to our room and have our family reading time. 😁

Fun Ways To Teach Short/ Long Vowel Sounds

Charades night with spelling bee 🐝

Just a recap of his lessons in school about vowel sounds, we did some charades with a mixture of spelling bee.

First, I wrote simple words (which we can draw as well 😅) in a scratch paper.

Then I let him pick a paper for us to draw it in front of him.

After guessing the picture, we would tell him to spell following asking him the vowel sound. 😁

The next evening, we played Jenga with a twist of Name 3 Things. Got this idea from Pinterest. 🙂 I mixed it with some spelling and also Mathematics (addition/ simple multiplication and subtraction) just to make it more challenging and fun!

His turn in Jenga blocks.

After his turn in Jenga, he would pick a paper and answer some of these category questions– Name 3 Things, spell the drawing , words that rhyme or do simple Mathematics basic operations. (He gets excited when it’s his turn! 😁)

Questions he picked.

We also had some background music while playing jenga. When he heard his favorite song, everything stopped and he started singing. ❤️
