A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior, to accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life. – wikipedia.org
Every New Year, we tend to list down our New Year’s resolution; the things that we want to improve, it might be our own personality, the old dying habits that we want to change or improve, or we want to accomplish a goal or simply improve ourselves.
In starting the year right, the best thing to do is to be able to determine your goals and plans before the year ends. There should be ample time and space to do your planning in a relaxing place that you could meditate and reevaluate yourself with no distraction.
Here Are Some Ways to Kickstart Right:
1. Learn from your past. Do a yearly retrospect.
Reflect on what your accomplishments you had, things you really want to do or improve and what mistakes you have done and how to avoid it.
What went well for me last year?
What accomplishments did I have?
How did I improve my life?
How did I improve my relationships?
What do I wish I had taken more time for?
These are some questions that you need to ask yourself in all the important aspects of your life, such as family, relationship, career, etc. These questions will help you appreciate all you’ve accomplished in the previous year, and you can use these answers to start the new year off right and set better SMART goals for the next year. (SMART- Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound)
Keep track of a clean journal that you can jot down your goals, do your planning and reflect that happened to you on the previous year.
2. Finish what you started.
If you have unfinished projects, errands or general list of things to do from the previous year, try to accomplish it in the early month to cross out and start doing your new set of goals.
When you make your own choices, prioritizing what’s important and what’s not, you’re in control. This is a top recommendation for starting off the new year right.
3. Prize Self- Improvement.
Make it a point to continually improve. This means doing some proactive activity on a daily basis. Whether it’s learning a new skill, taking a class, getting involved in a hobby, working on interpersonal communication or something else, self- improvement is integral to living a vibrant, purposeful life.
The goal is to achieve the best you can, to be the best person you can be. With this as your daily goal, you’re bound to see incremental gains. For example, you’ll feel more empowered, confident and hopeful. These are small signs you’re on the right path toward meaningful change, one small step at a time. -psychcentral.com
4. Maintain life balance.
It’s important to maintain a sense of balance in life by taking care of one’s self (exercise- eating healthy- sleep balance) and having a good relationship with people. Also by spending time with your family, friends and having time for yourself to relax and take a break from all the stress.
5. Face your fears.
Facing your fears is getting out of your comfort zone. If you want to do something but you’re unsure if you can do it, just step up and believe in yourself. Always remember, being afraid is okay but if you let your fear eat you up, then you won’t be able to accomplish anything.
6. DREAM BIG.
Was last year a time when you gave up on something that you really want? If so, maybe it’s time to revisit that dream or goal. Just because you may have believed the time wasn’t right before doesn’t mean the opportunity is lost forever. -psychcentral.com
Take your dream and start breaking it down into milestones. Break those steps down further so you can create a game- plan and start working towards accomplishing that dream.
This last part is vital. It’s not enough to dream. You must be willing to act on your intention.
Dare to DREAM BIG. AIM HIGH. FOCUS on what you REALLY LOVE.
Happy New Year, Everyone!!
